Cute-BSPA Sports Carnival 2026 begins Tuesday

 
The curtain rose on the two-week-long Cute-BSPA Sports Carnival 2026 on Tuesday, with carrom setting the competitive ball rolling at the Home of BSPA.

The annual sporting festival, organised by the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) and sponsored by Mousumi Industries Limited's popular brand Cute, was formally inaugurated by National Sports Council Director (Sports) and former national footballer Zahid Parvez Chowdhury, along with Mousumi Industries Limited (Cute) Executive Director Asma Ashrafi Saklain.

BSPA General Secretary in his welcome address, urged members to savour the thrill of competition and thanked the government and sponsor for their support. Zahid assured the association of all-out cooperation from the government, while Asma expressed optimism that Cute would continue contributing to the development of sports.

BSPA life member Selim Nazrul Haque, Finance Secretary Shahjahan Kabir among others, attended the ceremony.

More than 100 BSPA members are competing in 12 events across eight disciplines including archery, carrom, table tennis, chess, swimming, athletics, card games and shooting. 

The programme had earlier been announced as a two-week carnival, with all events scheduled across venues at the Dhaka National Stadium Complex.

Carrom and table tennis will feature singles and doubles, athletics will include the 100-metre sprint and shot put, while Call Bridge and Twenty-nine complete the card games. For two weeks, those accustomed to reporting from the sidelines will step into the sporting arena themselves, swapping notebooks for competition, and deadlines for a different kind of finish line.
