NCP condemns attacks,threats against 3 journos

National Citizen Party (NCP) has strongly condemned the alleged assault and verbal threats against three journalists while they were performing their professional duties in Shariatpur, demanding the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible.

In a joint statement issued on Thursday, NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhter Hossen said attacks on journalists while gathering news, coupled with threats aimed at suppressing the media, were unacceptable and raised serious concerns about press freedom and freedom of expression.

The statement said such incidents indicated that a “fascist mentality” still persisted within certain quarters.
“No kind of political cadre system or abuse of power will be tolerated in the new Bangladesh after the July uprising,” the statement said.
