Student's floating body recovered after 16 hours in Dinajpur

A student died while taking a bath in the Punarbhaba river in Mahutpara of Dinajpur city on Sunday.

The body of Rifat was retrieved from the river about 16 hours after he disappeared.

Rifat, son of businessman Rafiqul Islam, who passed his SSC exam from Baniakhari High School of Chirirbandar upazila recently.

According to local sources, Rifat along with two friends went to the river for taking a bath around 3:30 PM on Sunday (August 30). For a while, both Rifat and his friend Insan were taken below water by the stream. However, local people saved Insan and took him to the Dinajpur Medical College Hospital where he is recovering.

After the disappearance of Rifat, the Fire Services team was immediately brought there. Diving team of Rangpur carried out rescue operations that continued early Monday morning after being stopped for a night. Later, the body of Rifat was found floating in the river.

Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Nurunnabi also confirmed the death.
