Film fest lights up Central Women's University

A film screening and discussion session was held at Central Women's University on Thursday night, organised by the university's Media and Movie Club.

Students from different departments attended a screening of the Hindi film Laapataa Ladies on the campus.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Perween Hasan, Registrar Elias Ahmed, Chairman of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies Sajeeb Sarker, along with other department chairpersons and teachers, attended the programme.

Registrar Elias Ahmed said the film highlights how women can lose their identity and individuality behind the veil after marriage. He said people should not be judged simply as good or bad, as everyone has different qualities and dimensions.

Sajeeb Sarker said Laapataa Ladies was not merely about two women getting lost from a train, but also portrayed how women can lose their identity after marriage.

Media and Movie Club Co-moderator Kazi Nafia Rahman stressed the importance of self-confidence and self-reliance among students and announced the club's new committee.

Tanjila Rahman was named president, Humayra Kabir Prapti vice-president and Zubaida Sharmin general secretary.
Teachers and students also shared their views and experiences during the discussion.
