US aircraft carrier leaves conflict zone after Iran attack: IRGC claims

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that it launched ballistic missile attacks on a US aircraft carrier and a US Navy warship. According to the IRGC, both warships were damaged in the attacks and subsequently left the area.
However, the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said the Iranian missiles did not hit either of the two US warships and that no American service members were injured.
According to Anadolu, the IRGC claimed that the aircraft carrier and the warship were damaged in the attacks and later left the area. In a statement published by Iran’s state-run news agency IRNA, the IRGC said its Aerospace Force launched missiles targeting the two US warships.
The IRGC claimed that the two US warships had been harassing Iranian vessels and participating in a maritime blockade. It said both warships left the “area of conflict” after being damaged in the attacks.
The IRGC also claimed that CENTCOM had acknowledged the attack on the two vessels. The Iranian force described this as an acknowledgment of its own operation.
The IRGC warned that if US military operations continue, Iran’s armed forces will respond with greater “intensity.”
Earlier on Saturday (September 5), the IRGC Navy said it had targeted three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and three other vessels linked to the United States elsewhere, in retaliation for a US attack on an Iranian oil tanker.
However, CENTCOM said Iran had fired ballistic missiles at two US Navy warships patrolling regional waters. The two ships were able to evade the attack, and no US service members were injured.
CENTCOM further said that US forces subsequently attacked three Iranian crude oil tankers.
The conflict has been ongoing since the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran in February this year.
