Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to intensify cleanliness drives and public awareness campaigns across the country, involving local communities to prevent the spread of dengue.

He gave the directives on Sunday at a meeting on the country’s dengue situation and preventive measures at the Secretariat.

The prime minister stressed that dengue prevention should not rely solely on government agencies and called for greater public participation.

He urged people to keep their homes and surroundings clean, remove stagnant water, clear garbage and waste, and prevent the creation of mosquito breeding grounds.

The Premier also directed authorities to involve disaster management volunteers, Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) members, Rover Scouts and Red Crescent volunteers in cleanliness and awareness campaigns.

He said local-level cleanup drives should be organised by engaging communities through these volunteers to strengthen dengue prevention efforts nationwide.
