Managing Director (MD) of Datterhat Islamia Eye Hospital Abul Hossain is under arrest following the death of a 12-year-old child in Noakhali due to wrong treatment by Hossain.
According to sources, Hossain was placed under custody at the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court yesterday. Later, Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Hamidul Islam ordered his detention in jail.
The deceased Md Moslim, who hails from Kamalnagar upazila of Laxmipur district, was admitted to the hospital following an eye injury he suffered while playing with other children.
However, his relatives alleged that Hossain injected three needles into the boy’s eyes. Soon, Moslim fell unconscious and was taken to Noakhali General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
On the other hand, Hossain refuted the allegation saying he applied only local anaesthetic eye drops to the patient and such medicine could never cause death.
The hospital has been sealed and a three-member committee has been formed for investigation. Police said Hossain was shown arrested under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure while waiting for the family’s complaint.
