502 arrested in Dhaka police crackdown

Police arrested 502 people and filed 71 cases during a 24-hour anti-crime drive in various areas of the capital.

Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md Akter Hossain disclosed the information on Tuesday (September 8) morning .

He said the arrest were made during operations conducted in different police station areas of the capital, while various evidence and drugs were also recovered. 

Legal proceedings against them are underway, Akter Hossain added.

Of the total, 18 were arrested by Ramna Division, 28 by Lalbagh Division, 55 by Wari Division, 72 by Motijheel Division, 94 by Tejgaon Division, 134 by Mirpur Division, 32 by Gulshan Division, 50 by Uttara Division and 19 by the Detective Branch (DB).

During the drives, police recovered 7,942 Yaba tablets, 5.25 kg of cannabis, 3.2 grams of heroin, one mobile phone, one knife, four machetes, one spoke, two helmets, two pickup trucks, 150 liters of diesel, one drum, one battery, one plastic pipe and Tk 2,200 in cash.
