Dhaka sixth on global pollution list

Dhaka ranked sixth on the list of cities with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 157. The city of Kuching from Malaysia topped the list with an AQI of 249.

The data was provided by the air quality monitoring platform named IQAir which is based in Switzerland at about 8:45 AM on Tuesday.

The second most polluted city was Congo’s capital Kinshasa with an AQI reading of 232, then Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur with an AQI of 177. The fourth most polluted city was Vietnam’s capital Hanoi with an AQI of 170, then Pakistan’s Lahore with an AQI of 163.

According to IQAir, an AQI of 0-50 means “good,” 51-100 means “moderate,” 101-150 means “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” 151-200 means “unhealthy,” 201-300 means “very unhealthy,” and those over 301 mean “hazardous.”
