Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that the upcoming local government elections will be as credible and acceptable as the national election, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has said.
He said only those who meet the legal requirements would be eligible to contest the polls, assuring that the Election Commission would not issue any unlawful directives.
''We can guarantee that we will not give any illegal instructions,” the CEC said after a discussion meeting at Rajarbagh in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Nasir Uddin said the Election Commission had no shortage of commitment to ensuring a credible election.
“The Election Commission will not issue any unlawful instructions to the police during the election. I can guarantee that,” he said, adding that the police had also pledged to work towards holding a good and credible election.
The CEC said the Election Commission was preparing to hold local government elections very soon and would largely depend on the police’s capabilities in ensuring security during the polls.
