Rear Admiral Md. Niyamat Elahee, NPP, ndc, psc, has officially assumed duties as the 6th Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU).
The leadership transition was marked during a formal Handing-Taking Over Ceremony, where the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Rear Admiral Dr. Khandakar Akhter Hossain, NBP, NUP, ndc, psc, PhD, officially handed over the charge of the university to his successor.
Prior to this prestigious academic appointment, Rear Admiral Elahee had been serving as the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Materiel) at the Naval Headquarters in Dhaka since May 6, 2025. He brings profound technical expertise to the institution, specializing in naval weapons, naval electronics, and marine electrical systems.
Rear Admiral Elahee entered the Bangladesh Navy in 1989 and received his commission in 1992 in the Weapon Electrical Engineering Branch. He holds a graduation degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Throughout his distinguished career, the new Vice-Chancellor has also served in critical roles across various esteemed national institutions, including the Inter Services Selection Board (ISSB) and the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST).
