Chinmoy granted parole to attend mother’s funeral

Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Sammilito Sanatani Jagaran Jote and currently in jail, has been granted temporary parole to attend the last rites of his mother, who died of cancer.

The Chattogram district administration approved his parole application on Thursday to allow him to take part in the funeral rituals of his mother, Sandhya Rani Dhar, 70.

According to family, Sandhya Rani died at around 9:15AMon Thursday at the Shri Shri Pundarik Dham Ashram in Hathazari, Chattogram.

She had been suffering from various age-related complications for a long time. Cancer was recently detected while she was undergoing treatment at Chattogram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital.

Although she was receiving treatment at the hospital, Dhar expressed a strong desire to spend her final days at Pundarik Dham, a place associated with memories of her son. Her relatives subsequently took her to the ashram.

As her condition deteriorated, the family again appealed to the district administration for Chinmoy Krishna Das to be released on parole so he could see his mother and attend her final rites following her death.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia confirmed that the parole had been approved on humanitarian grounds following an application by Anjan Kumar Dhar.

He said Chinmoy Krishna Das would be taken to Pundarik Dham through the required legal and administrative procedures, where he would be allowed to perform the prescribed funeral rituals for his mother.
