Measles claims 7 more lives

Bangladesh has reported seven more deaths with measles symptoms in a 24-hour count.

Another 29 people tested positive for measles during the period.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 100 people have died from confirmed measles cases and another 909 from measles symptoms, taking the total to 1,009.

The health directorate has been publishing measles data since Mar 15.

Its Thursday bulletin said three people died in the Dhaka Division and one each in Sylhet, Rajshahi, Chattogram, and Khulna between 8am on Wednesday and 8am on Thursday.

Dhaka Division recorded the most deaths from measles symptoms at 407, followed by Sylhet with 157. Rajshahi reported 93, Chattogram 66, Barishal 57, Mymensingh 77, Khulna 38 and Rangpur 14.

Another 1,165 people with measles symptoms sought hospital treatment, with 1,112 admitted. Total admissions have reached 148,505, while 142,888 patients have been discharged.

Suspected cases stand at 168,745 and confirmed cases at 19,933.

As not all patients are tested, the true scale remains difficult to determine.�"bdnews24
