Bangladesh's fielding woes prove costly in Asia Cup exit

Bangladesh's fielding lapses proved costly as India defeated them by 40 runs in the first semifinal of the Women's Asia Cup in Dubai on Thursday, ending the Tigresses' campaign in the tournament.

After winning the toss and opting to field, Bangladesh made a promising start with the ball and kept India under pressure for much of the innings. But their fielding let them down at crucial moments, allowing India to recover and post 149 for six.

Shafali Verma was the biggest beneficiary. The Indian opener was dropped multiple times early in her innings, including chances when she was on six and later in her aggressive knock. She eventually made Bangladesh pay with a 40-ball 64, hitting seven fours and three sixes.

Bangladesh also missed a chance to dismiss Richa Ghosh, who went on to add valuable runs during India's late charge. India scored 53 runs in the final five overs to finish with a competitive total.

Bangladesh's bowlers had initially kept India in check, with Sultana Khatun claiming two wickets and Marufa Akter, Nahida Akter and Rabeya Khan taking one each.

The chase never gathered enough momentum, however. Bangladesh reached 109 for seven in 20 overs, with India's spinners maintaining pressure throughout. Deepti Sharma was particularly effective, finishing with three wickets.

The defeat ended Bangladesh's hopes of reaching the final, while India advanced to the title decider for the 10th time.
