6 more die, 1561 hospitalized in 24hrs

Six more people have died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,561 patients infected with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease have been admitted to hospitals during the period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information in its dengue update on Saturday, covering the 24-hour period from 8am Saturday to 8am Sunday.

According to the DGHS, 149 people have died of dengue in the country so far this year. Of them, 43 died in August. Two deaths were recorded in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June and 36 in July. So far in September, 52 people have died of the disease.

In the past 24 hours, 176 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation areas, 144 in Dhaka South City Corporation areas and 307 outside the two city corporations.

Among other divisions, 202 patients were admitted in Barishal, 181 in Chattogram, 275 in Khulna, 93 in Mymensingh, 104 in Rajshahi, 73 in Rangpur, and six in Sylhet. 

According to DGHS data, a total of 51,837 dengue patients have been hospitalised in the country since January 1 this year. Of them, 48,093 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
