A crude bomb exploded in front of the Supreme Court premises on Tuesday (September 15), shortly after the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced seven fugitive Awami League leaders to death.

The crude bomb was detonated at 1:18 PM directly in front of the main entrance reserved for the Chief Justice and other judges.

Confirming the incident, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman stated that law enforcement agencies are analyzing evidence to identify those involved. He assured that swift legal action would be taken against the perpetrators.

Earlier in the day, a three-member judicial panel of the International Crimes Tribunal-2, headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, handed down the death penalty to seven senior figures of the banned Awami League and its associate organizations for crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising.

The condemned individuals include banned Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, and banned Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain along with General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan. All seven convicts remain absconding.

The tribunal had kept the verdict pending on August 18 following arguments, subsequently fixing Tuesday to deliver the judgment.
