Joty decides to resign from T20 captaincy after Asian Games

Bangladesh Women's team captain Nigar Sultana Joty has taken a decision to step down from the T20 captaincy after the Asian Games, BCB Women's Wing Chairman Rafiqul Islam Babu said.

"She wrote a letter to BCB president Tamim Iqbal and me, informing that she is willing to quit T20 captaincy after the Asian Games," Rafiqul told the BSS.

"We didn't take any decision regarding the matter. She said that the decision was influenced to focus more on batting but will continue to lead ODI team. After the Asian Games we'll sit to decide the next course of action," he added.

The Women's Wing chairman said that he is little bit embarrassed by Joty's decision right at this moment when Bangladesh are preparing for a big event like Asian Games.

"I am a bit embarrassed by her announcement. Asian Games is a big event for us. So we want the players to play the tournament without any mental distraction. The time of her announcement is not suitable. She could do it after the Games," Rafique, a veteran cricket organizer added.

Joty was appointed as the captain across all formats in 2021 and she led the side through some memorable victories. 

But Bangladesh's recent poor performance, especially in the recently concluded Asia Cup put a pressure on her.

Rafique said since Asia Games is knocking at the door, they are not keen to discuss about team's performance.

"A big event is coming up, so I don't think it's the right moment to discuss about team's performance. Regardless of what happened, we know, Joty is still the best batter of the country. I want the players to be mentally refreshed and give their best in the Asian     �"BSS."
