Bangladesh's juniors were left searching for answers as the main draw of the 36th Bangladesh World Tennis Tour Junior J30 began at the National Tennis Complex in Ramna on Tuesday, with none of the home players able to advance.
The international field proved a stern examination, as China's Jimo Song, Jizhi Gu and Jiru Yang all recorded straight-set victories in the girls' singles.
Sara Al Jasim was beaten 6-0, 6-0 by Song on Court 1, while Jannatun Ferdous suffered a 6-1, 6-0 defeat against Gu on Court 3. Humayra Haider also found the going tough, losing 6-1, 6-0 to Yang on Court 5.
The boys' singles offered little respite. Kabya Gayen went down 6-3, 6-4 to India's Sankalp Kumar Sahani on Court 3, while Mohammad Rakin Rahman conceded a walkover to India's Shahbaz Singh Sanghera.
Away from the home challenge, top seed Trish Srisen of Thailand began his campaign with a composed 6-4, 6-4 victory over India's Arsh Warke. India's Saksham Vangsalie also progressed, sweeping aside China's Rongbin Dai 6-0, 6-2.
China's Tianyi Fang, who came through qualifying, continued his winning run with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Singapore's Andre Hernadio.
The girls' draw produced a more hard-fought contest, with China's Shuiyang Xu edging Australia's Aila Hasan 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 after three sets.
For the Bangladeshi youngsters, however, the opening day proved a baptism of fire, with the main draw already separating the contenders from the pretenders.
