Light rain possible in Dhaka, daytime temperature may rise

Dhaka and adjoining areas may see light rain or thundershowers today, while daytime temperatures are expected to rise slightly, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

In its latest bulletin on Saturday, it said the capital’s sky may remain partly cloudy to cloudy, with a chance of light rain or thunderstorms.

For the six hours from 7AM, winds in Dhaka and surrounding areas are expected to blow from the south and southeast at 10-15 kilometres per hour. 

Daytime temperatures may increase slightly during the period.

The capital recorded a temperature of 26.2°C at 6am, with relative humidity at 93%. Dhaka’s maximum temperature was 34.9°C on Friday, while today’s minimum temperature was 26°C. The city received 5 millimetres of rainfall over the past 24 hours.

Sunset in Dhaka is expected at 5:58pm today, while sunrise is due at 5:47AM on Sunday.

The Meteorological Department’s Storm Warning Centre said no warning or signal would be required for the country’s inland river ports between 5am and 1pm today.

Meanwhile, the department’s nationwide forecast issued on Friday night said scattered areas of Chattogram Division and one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Sylhet divisions could experience temporary gusty winds accompanied by light to moderate rain or thundershowers by 6pm today.

Across the country, daytime temperatures may rise slightly, while nighttime temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged.
