At least 16 people, including 11 civilians and five police officers, were killed and more than 50 others injured in a suspected suicide bombing near a police compound in northwestern Pakistan during Friday prayers on Friday.

The attack took place at the Old Police Lines gate in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province when an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the gate, according to officials and local media reports.

Kohat District Hospital's senior official Tahir Ali Shah said 15 bodies had been brought to the hospital along with injured people.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police later confirmed that 11 civilians and five police officers were among those killed.

Police said a suspected attacker was also killed in the explosion. The blast created a crater outside the mosque inside the police compound.

The explosion caused significant damage near the police compound, while rescue teams transported the injured to nearby hospitals.
