Three Bangladeshis, including a woman, returned home on Friday after spending 33 months in custody in India following their detention in connection with their entry into the country.

The Border Security Force (BSF) handed them over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) through a flag meeting at the Bhurungamari border in Kurigram.

The returnees are Abdul Jalil and Muzaffar Hossain of Kochakata in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram, and Sharmin Akter of Dhaka.

Members of the Sonahat BGB camp under Bhurungamari later handed them over to Bhurungamari Police Station.

Officer-in-Charge Azim Uddin confirmed the matter, saying the three had been detained by Indian authorities after entering the country. They were released after spending 33 months in custody and handed over to the BGB through a brief flag meeting following the regular procedure on Friday afternoon.

The police officer said the families of the three returnees had been informed. They will be handed over to their families after completing the necessary legal procedures once their relatives arrive at the police station.
