Three Bangladeshis, including a woman, have returned home after spending 33 months in an Indian jail for illegally entering India.

The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed them over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) through the Bhurungamari border in Kurigram on Friday (September 18).

Later, the Sonahat BGB camp handed them over to Bhurungamari Police Station.

The returnees were identified as Abdul Jalil and Muzaffar Hossain of Kachakata Police Station area in Kurigram, and Sharmin Akter of Manikganj.

Bhurungamari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azim Uddin confirmed the matter.

Police said the three were arrested by Indian law enforcement agencies after entering India illegally. After serving 33 months in jail, they were released and handed over to the BGB by the BSF through the regular repatriation process.

OC Azim Uddin said, "the three were handed over to their family members or guardians after completion of the necessary legal procedures."
