Two people were killed when a bus rammed into a truck that was parked for repairs on the Dhaka-Sirajganj highway in Kamarkhand upazila of Sirajganj early Saturday.
The accident occurred around 1:30 AM in the Talukdar Bazar area on the western approach road to the Jamuna Bridge, said SI Pranoy Pramanik of Jamuna Bridge West Police Station.
The deceased were Apon Islam, 26, of Gurugola Prannathpur area in Dinajpur Sadar and Md Aslam, 40, of Tarash village in Sirajganj’s Tarash upazila.
Police said the truck had broken down and was parked beside the highway while Apon and Aslam were repairing it. At the time, a Dhaka-bound bus hit the truck from behind at high speed, leaving both men critically injured.
Locals rescued them and took them to Sirajganj Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Police seized the Alisha Paribahan bus following the accident. A case has been filed, SI Pranoy said.
