Dengue, measles claim 10 more lives

At least 10 more people died of dengue and measles-related symptoms across the country in the 24 hours to 8am Sunday, while 1,236 people were newly diagnosed with suspected or confirmed measles and 1,593 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) provided the information in separate press releases on Sunday.

Four people died with measles symptoms during the period, taking the total number of such deaths to 956 since March 15. No death from confirmed measles was reported in the past 24 hours, while the number of confirmed measles deaths since March 15 stood at 101.

A total of 1,148 people were identified with measles symptoms and 88 were confirmed with the disease in the past 24 hours. Since March 15, a total of 179,814 people have been identified with measles symptoms, including 20,562 confirmed cases.

During the period, six people died of dengue, taking this year’s death toll to 184. Two deaths each were reported in Khulna and Chattogram divisions and one each in Barishal and Dhaka.

The latest admissions took the total number of dengue cases this year to 61,972. Dhaka division recorded the highest number of new cases at 384, followed by Khulna with 292.

So far this year, 57,610 dengue patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
