BPC loses Tk 90 per litre on diesel: Chairman

Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) Chairman Md Rafiqul Islam stated on Monday that BPC is losing Tk 90 per litre of diesel, leaving no alternative but to raise fuel prices.

According to a report by Star News, The BPC chairman disclosed the figure on Monday (September 21) following a government notification issued on Sunday night (September 20) that increased all fuel prices by Tk 20 per litre. The adjusted prices took effect on Monday.

Under the revised pricing, diesel now sells at Tk 135 per litre up from Tk 115, kerosene at Tk 155 up from Tk 135, petrol at Tk 160 up from Tk 140, and octane at Tk 165 up from Tk 145.

According to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division notification, international fuel prices and freight charges have escalated significantly since March due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Although global prices more than doubled, local prices were not fully adjusted to protect public interest, leading to a loss of approximately Tk 22,875.66 crore for BPC between March and August.
