Woman gets life for murder in Jhenaidah

JHENAIDAH, Sept 22: A Jhenaidah court on Tuesday sentenced Shantana Khatun to life in prison for the murder of 3.5-year-old Saima Akter Saba in Pabahati Village. The court also fined her Tk20,000, with an additional six months in jail if she fails to pay.

Judge Md Helal Uddin of the Jhenaidah Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court-1 delivered the verdict.

Saba went missing while playing outside her home on December 3, 2025. After a day-long search, police recovered her body from Khatun’s home at about 8:30 pm. Khatun, a neighbour, was later arrested and charged with the killing.
