Illegal wealth case: Siyam’s defence statement ends

The defence statement of Syed Sohanur Rahman Siyam, son of retired Public Service Commission (PSC) driver Syed Abed Ali Jibon, concluded on Thursday in a case filed over alleged illegal accumulation of wealth.

Siyam claimed innocence while giving his statement before the court.

Dhaka Divisional Special Judge BM Tarikul Kabir fixed September 28 for hearing arguments in the case.

The court completed recording the depositions of all 11 prosecution witnesses on September 13. On the day, ACC Deputy Assistant Director and complainant Zakir Hossain testified and was cross-examined by defence counsel Rezaul Karim.

According to the case documents, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against Siyam on January 5, 2025, accusing him of acquiring assets worth Tk 37.30 lakh beyond his known sources of income between September 3, 2021 and June 30, 2024.

Following an investigation, Zakir Hossain submitted a charge sheet against Siyam on December 30, 2025. The charge sheet alleged that Siyam possessed Tk 31.81 lakh in movable and immovable assets inconsistent with his known sources of income.

The court framed charges against Siyam on June 17 and ordered the trial to begin the same day.
