National interest, sovereignty will be core commitments of Bangladesh’s Future: PM

The prime minister made the remarks on Sunday morning while attending a National Standard award ceremony at Savar Cantonment.

Speaking at the event, Tarique said he had grown up in a military environment as a member of an army family.

He described the National Standard as a symbol of the country’s independence and sovereignty, saying the honour should inspire members of the armed forces to discharge their duties with dedication and commitment.

He said preserving the dignity and honour of the flag was a sacred responsibility for every soldier.

The prime minister also alleged that attempts had been made at different times to undermine the armed forces’ reputation and professional image. However, he said, the history of the Bangladesh Army was inextricably linked to the birth of the country.

Recalling the Liberation War of 1971, Tarique said Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman had rallied soldiers with the declaration “We Revolt” during the turbulent period leading up to independence. He said Ziaur Rahman made the first declaration of independence on March 26 and formally read it again on March 27.
