Dear Sir,
After the rainy season, the mosquito menace is on the rise across the country, increasing the risk of dengue. Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease spread by Aedes mosquitoes. It usually manifests three to 14 days after a bite from an infected mosquito. Common symptoms include high fever, eye pain, headache, nausea, muscle and bone pain, abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
To manage dengue, patients should get adequate rest, drink plenty of water or other fluids, sleep under a mosquito net and seek treatment based on the advice of an experienced doctor.
Preventive measures are equally important. Areas around homes should be kept clean, while water should not be allowed to accumulate in flowerpots or open containers. Mosquito repellent sprays should also be used regularly. Since Aedes mosquitoes can bite even in artificial light, we must remain vigilant at all times.
