B'desh joins mass UNGA walkout during Netanyahu’s speech

The Bangladesh delegation joined more than 100 UN delegates in a mass walkout from the UN General Assembly hall as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took the stage to address the 81st session.

This marks the second consecutive year that Netanyahu has faced a widespread boycott at the assembly, though no official country-by-country count has been released for this week's protest compared to last year's tally of 77 countries by Israeli officials.

Staged at the encouragement of the Palestinian Mission to the UN, the coordinated action left large sections of the hall visibly empty as Netanyahu approached the podium.

Photographs and reports confirmed empty seats belonging to delegations across the Middle East, North Africa, Central and South Asia, as well as parts of Africa and Europe—including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Sudan, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Algeria, Malaysia, Montenegro, Kyrgyzstan, Jordan, Libya, the Marshall Islands, and Mauritius—though an official, fully confirmed list of all participating nations remains unpublished.

Addressing the sparsely filled chamber, Netanyahu opened by urging any remaining "moral cowards" to leave the hall before defending Israel's military campaign in Gaza and dismissing accusations of genocide as "the biggest lie of the century."
