Woman dies after falling from construction building in Dhaka

A 35-year-old female construction worker died after falling through an elevator shaft on the fifth floor of an under-construction building in the Shani Akhra area of Kadamtali in Dhaka on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Josna Begum.

She was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition at around 2:15 PM, where the duty doctor declared her dead.

Yunus, a co-worker of the deceased, said Josna was cleaning debris on the fifth floor of the under-construction Safa Tower on Road No. 8 in the Shani Akhra 24-foot Road area around noon.

At one point, she accidentally fell through the elevator shaft and sustained critical injuries, he said.

“We learned about the incident and rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but she could not be saved. We only know her name and could not learn her detailed identity,” Yunus said.

Habibur Rahman, inspector-in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed her death, quoting the attending doctor.

He said, ''the body had been kept at the hospital morgue and the matter had been reported to the police station concerned.''
