Hurricane Polo lashes Mexico as Nolo strengthens near Hawaii

Hurricane Polo is lashing Mexico’s southwestern coast while Nolo has strengthened into a hurricane near Hawaii, raising concerns over heavy rain, flooding and landslides.

Polo has fluctuated between Category 4 and 5 as it moves along Mexico’s Pacific coast. Authorities have deployed 15,000 security personnel, suspended schools and opened shelters in vulnerable areas.

Meanwhile, Nolo is expected to bring 15 to 30 inches of rain to Hawaii’s Big Island, with higher amounts possible, while Maui also faces a risk of life-threatening flooding.
