Over 100 detained at anti-Netanyahu protest in New York

New York police detained 103 people during a protest against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit, ahead of his UN General Assembly speech on Thursday, CNN reported. 

Those detained included award-winning actress Susan Sarandon and Hacks star Hannah Einbinder. Protesters gathered on First Avenue near the UN headquarters, calling for an end to US arms support for Israel and the war in Gaza.

Videos showed police putting zip ties on Sarandon and Einbinder before taking them away. Jewish Voice for Peace said comedian Caleb Hearon, writer Glennon Doyle, congressional candidate Daryliza Avila Chevalier and former US Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning were also among those detained.

Other public figures seen at the protest included Cynthia Nixon, Tony Kushner, Nan Goldin, Eileen Myles and congressional candidate Brad Lander.
