A Dhaka court has placed Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip on a fresh four-day police remand following the completion of his initial four-day remand in the murder case of former Bangladesh Air Force officer M Tahsif Sauri.
State Counsel Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed that the investigating officer, Police Inspector Firoz Uddin, produced Dip before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Tuesday afternoon (November 3) and prayed for a seven-day remand, leading to the four-day order.
According to the remand application, Dip provided vital information during his initial interrogation. However, investigators noted that he evaded several key questions and remained silent regarding critical aspects of the case, prompting authorities to verify his statements.
Dip reportedly told interrogators that he called Tahsif out from his residence on October 27 at approximately 6:00 PM. Tahsif, Dip, and another suspect, Jerika Tasnim Disha (19), visited various locations before Disha returned home.
Later, at around 12:40 AM on October 28, Tahsif and Dip arrived at the Mazar slum area in Tongi. Dip claimed they separated after spotting several individuals near a field on the banks of the Turag River.
CCTV footage indicates that Tahsif and his female companion arrived on a motorcycle at the Nest Restaurant and Bar in Uttara's Sector 11 at 10:17 PM on October 27, followed shortly by Dip on another motorcycle. The trio spent about an hour and a half inside the bar before leaving together on motorcycles. Investigators are examining their movements, as Tahsif was last seen with them prior to his death.
In the remand petition, police outlined eight primary grounds for further interrogation:
• Reviewing and analyzing relevant CCTV footage in the presence of Dip.
• Investigating Dip's whereabouts and communications during a 15 to 20-minute interval when he temporarily moved away while at the Nest Bar and Restaurant with the victim.
• Collecting and analyzing Call Detail Records (CDRs) from mobile phones used by the victim, Dip, and others involved.
• Unearthing the core mystery surrounding the incident.
• Identifying and apprehending other unidentified suspects.
• Recovering material evidence related to the crime.
• Establishing the motive behind the murder.
• Determining the exact location of the homicide.
The body of Tahsif Sauri was recovered by the Tongi Naval Police Outpost from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat on the afternoon of October 28 and sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue for autopsy.
The victim's father, KM Enayetul Karim, filed a murder case against unidentified individuals at Uttarkhan Police Station on October 31, following which police arrested Dip. The naval police are currently handling the investigation.
