PM Tarique leaves New York after UNGA diplomatic engagements

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left New York for Dhaka on Friday night after wrapping up a five-day visit for the 81st United Nations General Assembly, with a series of high-level diplomatic and investment meetings on his final day.

On the final day of his visit, the prime minister held a breakfast meeting with Wall Street representatives and invited US businesses to invest in Bangladesh.

He later met Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah at Kuwait’s Permanent Mission in New York. They discussed expanding manpower exports, trade and investment and strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.

Tarique also held a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister and a lunch meeting with Prince Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, president of the International Peace Institute.

He also met UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk at the Grand Hyatt hotel.

Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin said the meetings focused on increasing investment in Bangladesh and promoting peace and human rights globally.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir said the meetings also focused on strengthening bilateral relations, increasing exports and expanding manpower exports.

The prime minister left John F Kennedy International Airport at 11:19 PM New York time on an Emirates flight for Dhaka via Dubai. He is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on September 27.
