Mirpur eviction drive resumes after clashes and arson

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) resumed its eviction drive against illegal footpath structures in Mirpur-10 on Wednesday (September 30) afternoon following clashes, arson, and chase-counter-chase incidents.

The operation restarted around 2:20 PM under heavy presence of law enforcement agencies, including police and Special Response Battalion (SRB) personnel.

The eviction drive initially began after 10:00 AM on Wednesday. However, violent clashes broke out between police and hawkers after 11:00 AM, leading to arson and vandalism.

Multiple vehicles, including City Corporation vehicles as well as police cars and journalist cars were also vandalized.

Eyewitnesses reported that a fire started due to an electrical short circuit when a city corporation road roller attempted to demolish illegal shops, sparking tension and unrest in the area.
