Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has described China-Bangladesh relations as being at their best in history, citing growing political trust, expanding economic and trade cooperation, and increasingly warm people-to-people exchanges.

“Today, with deepening political mutual trust, fruitful economic and trade cooperation, and ever-warmer people-to-people exchanges, China-Bangladesh relations are at their best in history,” he said in a statement marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

In the statement, titled “Over Half a Century Hand in Hand, Toward an Even Brighter Future,” the ambassador expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would continue to deepen despite challenges, stressing that the longstanding friendship serves the fundamental interests of both countries and their peoples.

Yao also reaffirmed China's support for Bangladesh's government, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its greater engagement in regional and international affairs.

He said China supports the new Bangladeshi government's efforts to govern the country and safeguard its national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, while opposing external interference.

"China supports the new Bangladeshi government in exercising governance, supports Bangladesh in safeguarding its national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, opposes external interference, and supports Bangladesh in playing a greater role in regional and international affairs," he said.

The ambassador noted that 2026 marks the 51st anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and China and the 10th anniversary of their cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

He described Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to China earlier this year as a significant milestone in bilateral relations, saying the two countries' leaders reached important understandings that gave fresh impetus to long-term cooperation.

"This year, Hon'ble Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid his first visit to China, during which the leaders of the two countries reached a series of important understandings and elevated bilateral relations to a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era, injecting strong impetus into the long-term development of bilateral ties," Yao said.

He added that Bangladesh and China had remained good neighbours, friends and partners through more than five decades of shared experiences, building relations on mutual respect, sincerity and cooperation.

Reflecting on Bangladesh's political changes during his tenure, Yao also expressed admiration for the resilience and national dignity of the Bangladeshi people.

The ambassador voiced confidence that the two countries would continue to strengthen cooperation and expand exchanges in ways that benefit both peoples, despite challenges in the international environment.
