Toufique Imrose Khalidi, editor-in-chief of BDNews24.com, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in London on Friday.
Senior BDNews reporter Golam Mortuza confirmed the news to The Daily Observer. According to his colleagues, Khalidi died around 7pm Bangladesh time.
Khalidi had travelled to London a few days ago to consult doctors about his health and was staying at a hotel.
On Thursday night, he suddenly became dizzy and fell in his hotel room. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance, where his condition later became critical. His colleagues said doctors informed them that he had died from a brain haemorrhage.
His sudden death has shocked colleagues and others in the country's media sector.
Khalidi had worked across broadcast, print and digital journalism, covering politics, business, economics, development and international affairs. He was also recognised for his contribution to the information and communication technology sector.
In 2017, he received a special honour at the National Information and Communication Technology Awards for his contribution to Digital Bangladesh. Then Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury presented the award to him at a programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on December 12 that year.
Khalidi served as editor-in-chief of BDNews24.com, one of Bangladesh's prominent online news organisations.
His career across traditional and digital media gave him extensive experience in covering national and international affairs.
Details about his age and the exact medical circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately available.
