Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has said that there is no specific timeline for the return of Sheikh Hasina.
Responding to a question at the Bay of Bengal Conversation 2026 in Dhaka, Trivedi said the matter was going through a legal process and that India was proceeding while respecting that process.
On Hasina’s departure to India, the Indian envoy said neither the Indian Air Force nor the Army had come to Bangladesh to take her to India. Rather, she was taken from Bangladesh to India amid the circumstances prevailing in the country at the time.
India, he said, had not been prepared for such a situation and therefore had not considered alternative scenarios beforehand.
“As a neighbouring country, it was India’s responsibility to receive the then prime minister.''
Trivedi added that it was difficult to say what might have happened had India not allowed the Bangladeshi aircraft carrying Hasina to land on its territory.
