The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a case against eight people, including an executive engineer of the Public Works Department, over alleged embezzlement of government land worth Tk 23.68 crore in Chattogram.
According to the ACC, the accused allegedly prepared and used forged records to occupy 24.96 decimals of government land in the Agrabad commercial area.
The land is located in Gosaildanga mouza and forms part of Plot No. 16 of the lease-out plan. According to the 2025 mouza rate, the land is valued at Tk 17.13 crore, excluding the building on it. An additional Tk 6.56 crore in unpaid rent brings the total to Tk 23.68 crore.
The accused include Mohammad Shah-Alam Faruk, former sub-divisional engineer of Chattogram PWD and currently executive engineer of Bagerhat PWD; Mohammad Farid Ahmed, owner of Konok Trading; Mohammad Fahim Ahmed, owner of Agrabad Convention Hall; Fatema Begum; Hasina Mumtaz; Mohammad Foyez Ahmed; Rokeya Sultana; and Shaheen Sultana.
The ACC said its investigation found that the accused allegedly acted in collusion, abused their entrusted authority and prepared forged records with the intention of benefiting themselves or others. They allegedly used the forged documents as genuine and kept the government land under their possession without paying the required rent.
The case will be filed under Sections 409, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 109 of the Penal Code and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
The ACC’s Chattogram-1 office has been instructed to file the case and take necessary legal action against the accused.
