
“Avengers: Endgame Encore” has reclaimed the title of the highest-grossing movie in history, surpassing “Avatar” after Disney’s latest theatrical re-release pushed its worldwide box office earnings to $2.925 billion.
The 2019 Marvel blockbuster now stands slightly ahead of James Cameron’s “Avatar,” which has earned $2.923 billion worldwide following five re-releases. “Endgame” initially overtook “Avatar” in 2019 but dropped to second place in 2021 after “Avatar” returned to cinemas.
Disney and Marvel re-released “Avengers: Endgame Encore” to build anticipation for “Avengers: Doomsday,” scheduled for release in December. The re-release has generated more than $126 million worldwide.
“Endgame” marked the culmination of 21 Marvel films released over a decade and featured stars including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman and Anthony Mackie.
Disney now accounts for seven of the 10 highest-grossing films of all time, including “Avatar: The Way of Water” ($2.33 billion), “Titanic” ($2.26 billion) and “Avengers: Infinity War” ($2.05 billion).
