The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a charge sheet against former Mymensingh-10 MP Fahmi Golandaz Babel and his wife Sharmin Golandaz in a case filed over allegedly acquiring illicit assets and conducting unusual bank transactions.
The decision was taken at the ACC headquarters on Monday, said the commission's public relations officer Tanzir Ahmed. The case was filed on January 16, 2025.
According to the investigation report, Sharmin has been named the prime accused while Fahmi has been named an accomplice. The ACC alleged that Sharmin acquired Tk1.02 crore in assets beyond known sources of income and conducted unusual transactions amounting to Tk3.17 crore through three bank accounts. Fahmi was accused of assisting his wife in acquiring the assets.
The ACC began investigating allegations of corruption against Fahmi in October 2024. Two separate cases were subsequently filed against Fahmi and his wife.
In the other case, Fahmi was accused of acquiring Tk20.11 crore in illicit assets and conducting unusual transactions involving Tk60.98 crore and $171,646 through 16 bank accounts. The investigation into that case is still ongoing.
The charge-sheet decision concerns the case involving Fahmi and his wife, while the investigation into the separate case against Fahmi remains underway.
