US Vice President JD Vance has said Iran must reduce its uranium enrichment programme to help end the war, stressing that Washington wants concrete limits on Tehran’s nuclear activities.
Vance made the remarks in a Reuters interview, saying any deal with Iran would require a “meaningful” reduction in its enrichment capacity. He questioned why Tehran would need to enrich uranium to 60% if it has no intention of developing nuclear weapons.
He said Washington remained open to a diplomatic settlement but expected Iran to take concrete steps to demonstrate its commitment to restricting its nuclear programme.
The remarks came as the US and Iran continued efforts to reach an agreement to end the conflict and address the situation around the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy shipments.
