442MW solar plant among 13 projects get nod

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 13 development projects worth Tk 16,207.55 crore, including a 442-megawatt peak solar power plant in Rampal and the procurement of 30 metre-gauge diesel-electric locomotives for Bangladesh Railway.

The projects were approved at an ECNEC meeting held on Wednesday at the Cabinet Division conference room in the Secretariat, chaired by Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Tarique Rahman.

Of the total project cost, Tk 10,600.80 crore will come from government funds, Tk 4,081.85 crore from project loans and Tk 1,524.91 crore from the implementing organisations’ own funds.

Of the 13 approved projects, 10 are new projects, two are revised projects and one involves an extension of the implementation period.

The largest allocation is for the second revision of the second phase of the Important Urban Infrastructure Development Project. Its cost has been increased by Tk 1,310.40 crore, taking the revised total to Tk 7,039.30 crore.

The project originally had a cost of Tk 3,465.50 crore. It was increased to Tk 4,418.50 crore in the first revision and Tk 5,728.90 crore in the second revision. The latest revision raises the cost by another Tk 1,310.40 crore.

The entire cost of the project will be financed by the government.

The ECNEC also approved a new Tk 3,767.50 crore project to improve rural infrastructure in Sirajganj, Bogura and Naogaon.

The entire amount will be financed from government funds. The project is scheduled to be implemented from October 2026 to June 2030.

A new project worth Tk 2,769.86 crore was approved to procure 30 metre-gauge diesel-electric locomotives as part of efforts to expand Bangladesh Railway’s operational capacity.

The government will provide Tk 811.38 crore, while Tk 1,958.48 crore will come through project financing.

The project is scheduled for implementation from July 2026 to December 2029.

The ECNEC approved a Tk 2,498.07 crore project to construct a 442MW peak solar power plant in Rampal.

Of the total cost, Tk 2,123.37 crore will come from project loans and grants, while Tk 374.71 crore will be financed by the implementing organisation from its own funds.

The solar power project is scheduled to be implemented between September 2026 and March 2029.
