Six die from measles and symptoms in 24 hours

Six people have died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours, while 1,390 new suspected and confirmed cases were reported, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday (October 7).

Of the latest deaths, two were reported in Dhaka division from measles-like symptoms and two from confirmed measles. Chattogram and Sylhet divisions each reported one death.

Since March 15, the death toll from measles and related symptoms has risen to 1,140. Of the total, 104 deaths were confirmed measles cases, while 1,036 were reported among people with measles-like symptoms.

The DGHS report said 1,280 people developed measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of suspected cases to 200,293.

Another 110 people were confirmed to have measles during the same period, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 22,020.

Since March 15, a total of 177,676 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country. Of them, 170,473 have recovered and been discharged.
