The government has started the process of recruiting 5,000 doctors to address manpower shortages in the health sector, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhith said on Saturday (October 10).
Speaking to journalists after a health workshop in Rajshahi, he said around 40 per cent of posts in the sector remained vacant, putting pressure on hospitals amid rising demand for healthcare services.
He said the government was also taking steps to establish pathology laboratories at upazila health complexes, ensure doctors’ attendance and strengthen disease prevention programmes.
More than two crore children have received vaccines under ongoing immunisation and catch-up programmes, while 2,000 doctors have received specialised training to treat dengue patients, he added.
Muhith stressed that vaccination, cleanliness and public awareness were essential to preventing diseases.
