Bollywood actor Imran Khan was detained in Mumbai on Saturday (October 10) during protests demanding the resignation of Indian Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, according to Indian media reports.
The detention came amid a nationwide crackdown on demonstrations organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has accused the Election Commission of irregularities in voter-list revisions.
According to 'Hindustan Times', authorities detained several protest leaders and demonstrators ahead of a planned rally at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Police tightened security across the capital and imposed restrictions to prevent the gathering.
The exact circumstances of Imran Khan’s detention and the reasons behind it were not immediately clear.
The protests have intensified political tensions over allegations of voter-list manipulation, which the Election Commission has rejected.
