The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for filing online VAT returns for the July-September 2026 tax periods until October 25, allowing taxpayers to submit returns without interest or penalties.
The decision was announced in a notification signed by NBR Second Secretary Sheikh Md Masudur Rahman of the VAT Monitoring, Statistics and Coordination wing on Thursday (October 15).
The notification said administrative reforms to the e-VAT system were needed following changes to VAT return filing provisions introduced through the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026.
Under the extension, taxpayers can submit online returns for the July, August and September tax periods by October 25 without incurring interest or penalties, the notification said.
The government has also issued the amendment ordinance, restoring the requirement for most registered and eligible taxpayers to file VAT returns within 15 days of the end of each tax period.
Government, semi-government and autonomous organisations, banks, insurance companies and taxpayers filing zero returns will be allowed 20 days to submit their returns under the new provision. The ordinance was published in an extra edition of the Bangladesh Gazette on October 14.
