National Bank begins paying back depositors

National Bank PLC has commenced the refunding of depositors' money, beginning transactions at its Dilkusha branch in the capital's Motijheel area on Thursday morning.

The liquidity support was facilitated through a Tk 7,000 crore loan provided by state-owned Sonali Bank PLC under the guarantee of Bangladesh Bank.

Moinul Islam, Manager of the Dilkusha branch, confirmed that depositors can withdraw up to Tk 2 lakh without requiring prior applications.

He added that over the past four days, 62 customers submitted withdrawal applications totaling Tk 4.57 crore at the Dilkusha branch alone.

The decision to resume normal banking activities and disburse funds came following directives from the central bank after four frustrated depositors filed court petitions over their inability to withdraw money from National Bank for an extended period.
