The Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd (BTCL) has started replacing old landline telephone numbers with new 11-digit numbers in Gulshan, Badda, Baridhara, Mohakhali, Banani and Dhaka Cantonment.
In a notice issued on 14 October 2026, BTCL said the change was being made under its Modernisation of Telecommunication Network (MoTN) project to improve services, says a press release.
The existing seven-digit numbers beginning with 8831 and 8837 are being replaced in phases with new 11-digit numbers through newly installed exchanges.
Under the new system, the old numbers will be replaced with numbers beginning with 022222. BTCL said it would try to retain the last digits of existing numbers wherever possible.
Customers can check the list of old and new telephone numbers on BTCL's website, www.btcl.gov.bd.
BTCL will also notify customers of their new numbers by phone as the changes are implemented.
